When and how to use v-guide for your conveyor belt application
When it comes to belt tracking, one of the most frustrating situations is when you’ve gone through all the troubleshooting steps and your conveyor belt still refuses to track. You’ve checked that the belt and conveyor structure are square. You cleaned the conveyor and removed debris. The belt still won’t track! If you have tried all of these methods and still have trouble tracking, then you most likely need a v-guide.
A v-guide is an accessory that can be welded or glued to the bottom of your conveyor belt. The reason for a v-guide is to aid in tracking a belt in order to help control product placement on the conveyor belt as it moves. A belt that does not track well will tend to sway from side to side. A v-guide will minimize wandering and support load consistency. In this way v-guides prolong belt life by improving tracking and reducing the amount of wear on each edge.
Not only can you use v-guide on the bottom of the belt, but you can also use it on the cover side for containment. Here are some common uses of v-guide on the top of the belt:
- A cleat to help keep your product from moving
- A side edge to keep product on the belt
- Create lanes to separate product
