How to make your belt run straight
A primary reason why a belt will not track is due to the squareness of the belt. Proper squareness will help distribute stress along the splice. To learn how to square a belt, read our article on squaring a belt. Next, check to make sure that the conveyor structure is square. To do so, measure diagonally across the frame of the structure, this should equal. Do this same process vertically to the floor to the frame. If this equals throughout the frame of the structure then you are square. Pulleys and rollers also need to be properly aligned to ensure proper tracking. Imagine a center line going down the belt, pulleys and rollers must be on a right angle to prevent any swaying.
Pollution or debris is a leading cause of belt mis-tracking and has an easy solution. To prevent this, make sure that your belt is properly cleaned and is cleaned often. A build up of residue can also impact pulleys and overtime, cause a belt to not run perpendicular. If you need more precise tracking try one of the following:
