Having a clean conveyor belt is an important aspect of Good Manufacturing Practices. Mol Belting recommends the following procedure for cleaning your conveyor belts:
Step 1: CLEAN
Apply a detergent such as MolChem™ Checkstand and Belt Cleaner.
Step 2: WIPE
Brush or scrub to remove stubborn debris. Rinse and apply additional cleaner as needed until you are able to wipe with a lint free cloth for a streak-free clean.
Step 3: SANITIZE
Follow your company or industry HACCP plans for sanitizing the belt and work area.
Step 4: PROTECT
For a residual clean that keeps on protecting, apply an Antimicrobial Protectant. This will inhibit the growth of bacteria and pathogens between cleanings.
Cleaners such as Lye and Bleach are harsh on PVC, so if you use these as detergents or sanitizers you should be mindful of concentration levels and limit the chemical exposure.
